
Dr. Mohammad Mustafa is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Palestine Investment Fund. He is also the Economic Advisor to the President.
Under Dr. Mustafa’s leadership, PIF has embarked on a new strategy that focuses on building a strong and independent Palestinian economy through investing in strategic sectors in Palestine. He has transformed PIF into a professional, transparent and accountable organization, which is currently spearheading an ambitious 4-billion dollar investment program in partnership with the private sector and with local and foreign investors. To implement this ambitious agenda, PIF established a number of new leading Palestinian companies. Some of these companies include: Wataniya Telecom, Palestine’s second mobile operator; Arduna, which is developing a new commercial downtown in Ramallah-Beireh; Al-Reehan, which is developing a new middle-class planned community on the outskirts of Ramallah. PIF is also currently working on the establishment of a $500M Affordable Mortgage Loan Company (“AMAL”) that will provide mortgage financing to working and middle income Palestinians.
In his capacity as Economic Advisor to President Abbas, Dr. Mustafa plays an important role in shaping national economic policies and in guiding the Palestinian authority’s efforts to spur sustainable economic development in Palestine.
Prior to assuming the leadership of PIF in 2006, Dr. Mustafa worked in a number of leading investment and development institutions in the Arab World and internationally. For more than 15 years, he served in different positions at the World Bank. His last position was the Lead Private Sector Development Specialist for the MENA region at the World Bank. Dr. Mustafa has also served as the Economic Reform Advisor to the Government of Kuwait and as a Lead Advisor to the Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was also the founding CEO of PalTel, Palestine’s first telecommunication company.
Dr. Mustafa obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Management and Economics from The George Washington University, and his B.S.c. in Engineering from Baghdad University.
